Salesforce Sharing Rules Update

Incident Report for Geopointe

Postmortem

The Situation Late last week, a platform-level update from Salesforce introduced a breaking change to how record access is verified (Salesforce Known Issue https://help.salesforce.com/s/articleView?id=005103630&type=1). This change caused some Geopointe users to lose visibility into shared folders or encounter errors when loading map layers.

Our Response While our team identified the potential for this issue early and deployed a proactive update on Sunday, we discovered that certain complex sharing structures—such as nested roles and specific public group memberships—required a more robust technical solution than the initial patch provided.

Our engineering and QA teams worked through the night to rebuild our sharing logic to ensure compatibility with the new Salesforce environment.

Resolution & Current Status A comprehensive fix was successfully deployed to all customers as of Tuesday, March 24th, at 9:00 PM.

  • Visibility Restored: Full access to shared folders and layers has been restored for standard users, including those in complex role hierarchies.
  • Custom Objects Note: Please be aware that some Custom Object data sets may still require a minor manual update to resume normal operations. If you are experiencing issues specifically with Custom Objects, please reach out to your Customer Success Manager or our Support team for immediate assistance.

Moving Forward We pride ourselves on being proactive partners. While this incident originated from a platform change outside of our direct control, we have used this as an opportunity to harden our code against similar external shifts. We have also expanded our automated testing environments to include more complex sharing scenarios to prevent future regressions.

Update

Following a Salesforce update, standard users lost visibility into shared folders and layers. We have resolved most of these issues proactively, but group membership with complex sharing structures, such as public groups that contain nested roles are still impacted. The team is working on a fix, contact your Ascent Cloud team for workarounds in the interim.
